Watch the Launch event recorded:

We’ve got it, direct from Microsoft, thanks to Microsoft Virtual Presskit. You will need Microsoft Silverlight for the Microsoft stream, and since this is the press kit and we get access early, you see all the testing they are doing to the stream. After the Microsoft stream, we will switch to The Engadget Show Live, with an interview with Steve Ballmer. If you are in New York, you can join the audience. The Show will take place at the Times Center, part of The New York Times Building in the heart of New York City at 41st St. between 7th and 8th Avenues. Tickets are free, available for all ages, tickets are given out after 12:30PM (Local) and the show begins at 2:30PM (Local) or 7:00PM (GMT). You must be present to get a ticket, you cannot reserve for someone else. Tickets are on first-come, first-served, and once the building is full, it’s full. The show starts on the live stream at about 7:00PM (GMT) and the show lasts about an hour. The Engadget Show uses Flash Player.

Thanks to Engadget for the interview and Redmond Pie for providing the Microsoft Stream Info.

New MacBook, iMac, Mac Mini and Magic Mouse!!!

So the rumours are true. The new iMac is now available, in a 21.5 inch version, at 1920x1080p, and a 27 inch version, with a really big 2560×1440 resolution. Both come with LED Backlighting. The Mac Mini is the same price, same look, but the base model is bumped to 2.26Ghz and 2GB Memory, a second model has 2.53Ghz and 4GB Memory. Another version has two hard drives and no optical drive, and has Mac OS X Snow Lepoard Server. The MacBook has the Built-in 7 hour battery, and now has an LED backlight, plus a unibody enclosure. It also has the glass trackpad, but loses firewire and a dedicated line in jack. However, it does come with 2GB Memory standard and a 2.26Ghz Processor. The Magic Mouse is probably the best. It lets you use the gestures that the MacBook Pro let you do on it’s trackpad. It’s also only available in a wireless model. A minor upgrade is the wireless keyboard now has two battery slots, not three. There is also a new aluminium Apple Remote.

Quick In the news…

The Palm Pre is now out here in the UK on 02. Wooo! No, I’m not getting one (At least I don’t think so!)

Hopefully We’ll be able to do an in-store testing, possibly on video, if we get permission.

In Uruguay, all primary school children are being given free laptops, as part of the One Laptop per child scheme. I think it’s great, and check out their website: laptop.org [Via BBC News]

Acer offering a recall for some Aspire Laptops

Acer is offering a voluntary recall for Acer Aspire notebooks, models include the AS3410, AS3810T, AS3810TG, AS3810TZ and AS3810TZG. Apparently it is caused by extreme pressure to the left arm rest, causing the microphone cable to overheat. It is for laptops manufactured before September 15th 2009.

iPhone on AT&T now has MMS

You can finally drag your texts into the 21st century and add some photos, contacts, music ect. if you have an iPhone on AT&T. Here’s how:

1. Plug in your iPhone 3G or 3GS (Sorry iPhone original users)

2. Click Check for Updates.

3. Install a tiny file.

4. Restart your iPhone, and you are done!

So finally AT&T. That “by the end of summer” is very late. Can’t Verison have it?

Spotify to Become Social Network

The Spotify boss, Daniel Ek has revealed that under 10% of users are paying for music, dispite the spike in subscibers when the mobile app was released. He believes that there are enough users to make a social network be worthwhile. At the moment this is just an idea, but it may happen in the future.

In The News…

The goverment in the UK is proposing rules to force illegal file-sharers who share/download persistently may get their Internet cut off. Internet Providers and Civil Rights Groups say that this may unfairly punish those who share a web connection (or come to think of it, download at Starbucks ect.) e.g. In a university the dorm block gets cut off because of one person file-sharing.

Microsoft’s new “OneApp” allows non-smartphones to connect to sites like Twitter, Facebook and others. It has been designed to allow people in emerging markets to use these services. However, there won’t be thousands of apps like an App Store. Only a handful selected by the operator, since the network’s processing power is used, rather than the handset’s.

Gmail went down for a majority of it’s 150 million users for around two-hours (or more for me) due to an “error during routine server upgrades.”

Quote from a blog post by Ben Treynor (from Google):

“We know how many people rely on Gmail for personal and professional communications, and we take it very seriously when there’s a problem with the service, Thus, right up front, I’d like to apologise to all of you – today’s outage was a big deal, and we’re treating it as such.”

Err… let’s hope (for about the fourth time this year) it doesn’t happen again for a long, long time.

That’s all for now!

The iTablet

Apple have been rumored to announce a product in September and the iTablet is what a lot of people think it will be. Most people say it will have a 10 inch screen, run a slightly watered down version of Mac OS X, will also be an ebook reader and some even say it will have 3G and be able to run iPhone apps. Are you excited? I am! [Update: Running iPhone Apps probably won't happen. Anyway, Apple has had their event and not announced it. Check out the ModBook which already is a tablet Mac!]
