iPhone 4G left in an a bar, now Apple want it back

On March 18th, this next generation iPhone was picked up in a bar and, by Monday the 19th of April, was sold to Gizmodo for $5,000. Apple killed it’s OS (4.0) before anyone but the finder could see it, but it has hardware additions, such as an extra front facing camera, a higher res screen, and a flash for the camera on the back. It also is flat on both sides, takes Micro SIM cards and apparently has 80gb of storage. And now Gizmodo have said yes to giving it back, after Apple sent a letter to ask if they could have it back , which confirms it’s real, but not whether it’s a prototype, or an early retail model.

Opera for iPhone reaches top of the download chart.

Within 24 hours of appearing on the App Store, Opera for iPhone has topped the download charts.

The app was downloaded 1,023,380 between the 14th and 16th April.

Opera’s app took 3 weeks to be approved. In my opinion, it feels a little clunky and “betaish,” and quicktime, as well as Youtube videos won’t play. However, it is incredibly fast on slow EDGE or GPRS connections, and has a very nice speed dial.

I hope Opera listens to some of the criticism they are getting and improves the app accordingly.

Apple Releases new MacBook Pros

The Apple iPad!

Apple’s 27th January Event has finished, and the long awaited tablet has been announced. And it’s called the iPad. It’s very much like the iPod Touch/iPhone stretched up.

The iPad includes redesigned Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Safari, Notes, Photos, Youtube, Videos and many other built-in apps.

One of the coolest apps is the new iBooks app. It includes the new iBook Store, and is an awesome e-book reading app. Apple has signed deals with many leading publishers already.

The iPad will run all of the 140,000+ apps in the App Store, which will be stretched or displayed in a little window in the middle. They also released the iPad SDK, for dedicated iPad apps. Several developers spoke at the conference, such as EA. Apple is also making iWork for the iPad, which will cost $10 per app (Pages, Numbers, Keynote)

The device has a 9.7inch, LED-backlit, IPS display with a 178° viewing angle. It is also multi-touch (obviously.)

The device will have a Wifi only model in 16, 32 and 64GB, and they will all be available with 3G as well.

These are some of the accessories. They have announced a iPad dock, and one with a keyboard. It is also compatible with the Apple Bluetooth Keyboard too. It is also available with a jacket which doubles as a clever stand. Other accessories include a VGA, component and composite output cables, and a dock connector to USB or SD adpater.

The iPad runs at 1Ghz on Apple’s new 1Ghz A4 processor.

So, what do you think? I personally think it is a great device, but others think it’s just a stetched iPhone. Which is true. At the moment. Let’s see what’s to come. No release date yet, but will I get one when it comes? Depends on the UK pricing, which we will post when available.

Panasonic Announcements!

Well well. Panasonic’s had their conference and have some pretty cool stuff. Do you see those SDXC cards on the right? That’s right, Panasonic is making some mad sized SD cards at up to 2TB. You could also be holding one by the end of year. Now, when will we have MicroSDXC cards this size?

Dell Slate & Nyko Wand+

Ok so it has been posting madness other the last few days. So this is going to be quick.

The Dell Slate and it's 5 inch display.

The Dell Slate has a very nice 5 inch display and has a SIM Card Slot, so includes a dialer. It’s also very thin, and has a removable battery (duh!)

The Nyko Wand+ with built-in MotionPlus.

Now Nydo have been selling Wii Remote alternatives for a little while. But now they are selling Wiimotes with built-in Wii MotionPlus. The remote will be available for $39.99 and will be available by March. The remote is a rubberized black and so are the buttons, that Engadget says are comfortable to the touch. The Nyko is also lighter than the Wiimote + Wii MotionPlus Combo!

The only thing is it isn’t the best looking device. But, Nintendo might be offering something similar soon, and if I need another Wii Remote for any reason, I’ll probably buy one from nintendo, providing I can find a way to use my charging station.

Palm Announcements at CES

Palm has unveiled three main things at CES:

The Palm Pre Plus

The Palm Pre Plus is an updated model of the Palm Pre, and ships with double the internal memory, at 16GB. It also includes a touchstone charger as standard. It also doesn’t have a button under the touchscreen, which means it will act as a navigation slider bar. It’s also hitting Verizon Wireless on January 25th, however no prices yet. [Via Engadget]

The Palm Pixi Plus

The next announcement is the Palm Pixi Plus. The phone is similar to the old one, but has Wifi (finally!) and is on Verizon Wireless. [Via Engadget]

The Palm Mobile Hotspot App

Ok, so wired or bluetooth tethering is good, but it’s limited to one user. Palm just dropped us the Palm Mobile Hotspot. It allows five users to share a Wifi internet connections. So it’s a lot like a Mifi device from Sprint or Verizon Wireless or here in the UK, 3. Seems awesome! Makes me want one more than the previous one, well when it comes in the UK. [Via Engadget]

CES News… WD My Book 3.0 HDD, Lenovo Laptops

The Lenovo IdeaPad U1 Hybrid

So first we have the Lenovo IdeaPad U1 Hybrid. It’s an interesting concept. It is a laptop with a 11.6inch detachable multitouch screen. When attached to the main body, it’s powered by a CULV Intel Core 2 Duo processor and runs Windows 7 Home Premium. However, when you detach it from the main body, it turns into a Qualcomm Snapdragon powered-multitouch slate with a 16GB SSD that boots Lenovo’s customized Skylight Linux interface.
